I'm glad you found your way to PilLove!
I'm a woman in my thirties that have always been passionate about interior design. I have a great love for color and have never understood the love we Scandinavians have with the neutral palette. We just love our whites, beiges, grays and blacks. I guess I find it difficult to understand why we - with our gray and comparatively cold and harsh climate - would prefer to surround us with such dull and lifeless colors.
To me color is warmth, happiness and life! We need color to brighten up our everyday life. This is what I want to help you with. I want everyone - regardless of the size of your wallet - to be able to buy yourself some color. First and foremost I do this with the help of pillows. I have them in all shapes and sizes but they all come in color and lots of it! You can use them for them for your sofa, bed or floor or why not use one to brighten up your workspace or give one away as a christening present or birthday gift.
As I am a fan of all things beautiful I occasionally come a across unique items that have that "je nais sais quoi", that special something that just pulls at your "I want, I need" gene and you just have to have it! These items can be found under "Selected by PilLove". All of these products live up to at least one of the following criteria; handmade, fair traded, eco-friendly or second-life product. A lot of these products are true gems in that sense that they are vintage and showcase different cultures textile heritage. Take a look at the hand embroidered Suzanis, the hand embroidered bags made of vintage Chinese baby carriers or the hand dyed and hand woven ikat pillows from Uzbekistan. Beautiful!

Background
The concept to sell decorative pillow covers online was born some months after I got home from one of my trips to Thailand. In a sense it all began several years ago when I fell in love with some fabrics that my mom had brought with her after a trip to Bali. Like for my mom, it was love at first sight. Unfortunately, but rather predictable, the fabrics ended up in the linen cupboard and then lay there for several years.
Then approximately 15 years later I travelled to Thailand to visit my parents and there they were again. Everywhere in the local villages the Muslim women paraded around in these wonderful fabrics, wearing them as a sort of sarong. The fabrics were sold at the local markets. There they were laying next to the spices, vegetables and exotic fruits.
I could not help but buy me a few pieces of fabric. I decided to make pillow covers out of them and had the local seamstress make them for me. They turned out great and once I arrived home and saw the pillows adorn my bed and floor, I feel in love all over again. So I decided I had to share them with everyone else. Just because the weather is gray here in Scandinavia does not mean we have to dress our homes in the same colorless palette.
Then the concept of selling decorative pillow covers grew to include other cultural textiles, so now the collection includes pillows from all over the world, from Malaysia and Japan to America and Great Britain. All made by small independent designers who design and produce these wonderful pillow covers by hand, often in their little studio. The general theme on PilLove.se is COLOR and lots of it! I want to inject some color into the white, beige, brown, gray and black palette of Scandinavian homes. In this often gray, dark and cold climate we need color to brighten up our everyday lives. So join the movement, buy a vibrant and colorful pillow!
I obviously wanted to share my love for color and design with the "little people" so I have a children's collection, too. A favorite - among many - are the wonderful owls that are handmade by a woman in Malaysia but also PilLove's own colorful childrens collection.
With love,
Charlotte
Charlotte
